Well to say the move out here has been interesting is definitely an understatement. Last week I made a career transition that I have wanted to pursue for some time. Before the move and immediately upon arriving in Tennessee I was an Accountant with some Financial Analyst duties. This basically meant I was working books in some form or another. Something that I did enjoy doing but I felt was quite uninspiring at times. At many times to be honest… So once we moved to Tennessee I went in search for the same thing. I guess it was to fill the financial need but it over looked my desire to make a change. After working for a couple of months with that company I had a sit down with Julie. We decided that if I were to ever make a move that now (then) was the best time. I thank Julie so very much for her support during my transition. It was not easy at all and she was super supportive. I actually had all but given up when I had an offer for some temp work at the employer I left.
By the way, small gap there, I worked for a firm for four months before I decided to make the change. I then told my then employer and they were very supportive yet sad to see me go. They were great about understanding my desire to branch out. Okay that fills the gap. Well a few months into my search for new work the old firm had me back to do some work for them and train a replacement. The replacement I had originally trained was fired within two months. Yeah that quick. So I worked with that firm on a part time basis and continued to search for my “dream” job. Around Christmas I had interviewed for a position that really sounded exciting and challenging and once they settled some departmental issues they offered me the job. So now I am again with job and away from the original accounting duties.
Currently I am a Project Accountant with SAIC. SAIC is a multi-billion dollar government contractor with an office in Oak Ridge. I am working with a team that is installing and converting there old contracts/accounting system to an updated Costpoint system. I will be working business to business arranging kickoff meetings and implementing new projects into their system while resolving system related issues. NO more paying bills, making collection calls, or printing invoices. I am excited about my team, boss, and the atmosphere here.
All of this is of course thanks to Julie. Thank you Julie for being my sugar momma and allowing me to drop everything and search for new work. You rock! For most wives I guess jewelry would be in order, for Julie probably a new creek boat or a full face helmet! Man am I a lucky guy or what?!?!
Now back on track and in the house hunt again, yee-haw!!
