Time for Football!!

Ahhh that time has come. Time to sit in front of the tube and watch others beat each other up. Time to secretly hope that the guy on the other team that is really good would get injured, if only for the remainder of the game. Time to throw a hodgepodge of pizza rolls and hot wings in the oven and crack open a beer. Ahhh good ol' football. It's going to be a little more difficult with all the SEC coverage but we have found the OU club in Knox so we should be set. I'm sure some rich alum here has the perfect set up! We'll bring the brew. We love football season.

BOOMER SOONER!!! Go Tulsa and Go Vols! Fight on ND, fight on!

Visitors!!

We had our first set of visitors come on out to Knoxville. First off we had Andy C. make the trek out and arrived here on the 10th. That night we took him to our favorite wheat bread pizza joint and had some good laughs and a tour of downtown. On Saturday we ditched our OU football club to get in a couple rides on the Pigeon. We figured Andy over the club, I think we made the right choice.

The Pigeon was a ball. We ended up getting two solid runs in and stopped for plenty of play. That evening we headed back to Knoxville and grab some food on the river downtown at Chalhoun's. Good food and a great day with the Andyman.

Sunday the three of us met up with Matt, Amanda, Dru, and Kaylin on the Hiawassee River. It was great to see some Okies again and the water was chilly and refreshing. This was our first trip on the Hiawassee and we really enjoyed it. It is a class I-II river with tons of places to play around and get comfortable with your boat. Great river access and dam fed! That evening, after our run, we parted ways with Andy (who was camping at the Nanty all week) and led Matt and Amanda back to our place.

The next morning we snuck out to work while Matt and Amanda slept in before their long drive home. I'm sorry we didn't get more time together but still glad that we got to hit the river with you two. Amanda, I am really impressed at how fast you're learning! I wish we could have been that quick.

All week we got reports from Andy and began making plans to meet him on the Upper Green on Friday the 17th. As we got closer to the time we realized that Friday there was not going to be a release. So we decided to hit the Ocoee instead. Once at the Ocoee we met up with Roy Teal, from AR. More Arkies! It was great to paddle with Roy again and the three of us had a ball running my sometimes decent lines.

About halfway through our run two more Arkies caught up with us. Scott and Carl had just made it in and were a great addition to the day. Great guys and awesome boaters. I enjoyed watching Scott throw that little boat around like a toy. Mine still seems to man handle me... oh well. That evening we grabbed a little food and Andy and I drove back to Knox.

Saturday we hit the Ocoee again. Me in a different boat, due to the crack in my old one. It again was a great day for a paddle and we ended up having one hell of a time. Sunday, you guessed it the Ocoee again!! Man we love this river. I think Julie even wants an Ocoee tattoo... just kidding. Great day again and a little shorter so that everyone could get on the road.

I want to really thank everyone that came out and paddled with us. We always enjoy taking people down river and also meeting new paddlers. I still have yet to paddle with someone that I really didn't like. Okay one guy in Canoe School, but that's it! Andy, thanks for staying with us and being such a good friend. Your positive attitude and insight was great to have around!

See you all again soon,

Addicted to Cracks!

Okay luck is not on my side when it comes to kayaks... My new 07 4Fun Jackson is cracked. It has a nice 2"-3" crack under my seat. So let's recap, EZG60 cracked, EZG60 cracked and softened, then 07 4Fun cracked. Three in a row baby. I am good!

I spoke with a Jackson guy and he said the 07's had a problem with the blue plastic. So Rock Creek is on it and getting me a new boat, I think (fingers crossed).

So for the weekend I got to paddle a All Star. Fun boat but I am definitely too tall for it. Everyone was telling me I looked strange in it and definitely needed to move forward. But I couldn't and it was killing my toes. I want my Fun back!

WE BOUGHT A HOUSE, well umm err not really true now....

Okay so the house thing was a little too quick. Julie and I have decided to pull out of the contract. The sellers are okay with it and we know it's the best thing right now. So back to getting comfortable and standing on two feet. More details to come and more trip reports so stay tuned!

Rafting!

raft trip ocoee 7.29 008
Yes we finally stepped out of the little plastic boats and jumped head first into a giant rubber raft! Dru and Kaylin had some family in town for the weekend, great people by the way, and they wanted to raft. We figured what the hell and I'm glad we did, what a blast!

In the morning we got in a half run in the kayaks with Julie, Dru, John, and myself then we headed to the rafts. Side note... In kayaks, Team Blue dominated and pulled the only aerial move of the day. Your my boy blue!

Off to the rafts... We got our safety talk then were hand picked by the safety leader, a.k.a Yoda, and we were on the way. I think Yoda took one look at our gear and knew he would have an easier day with us then with the kids and newbies. Either way Yoda did a great job and we got in some great surfs and swims!

And yes someone did fall out, me! I got it good and was flung from the boat. Julie had a great bow cowboys ride down double trouble and I got in a good standing ride at hell hole. Monte and John were a ball and a ton of fun in the raft. We hope to paddle with them again, real soon!

After the rafting Dru and I headed to hell hole for some little plastic boat action. Got in some great rides and all-in-all had a great day.

By the way, I am hear to announce that the food at the Ocoee is the best around. Try both the Gondolier and the Ocoee Deli. The Deli shows carnage videos while serving the best sandwiches I have ever had and the Gondolier has some really good Italian dishes. Man we love it out here!
